Easy Access to the City
The city, The Roman Baths, Thermae Spa, Abbey and Royal Crescent are just 5 – 10 minute by car or a casual 30-minute walk via the beautiful Royal. Victoria Park. Regular buses to the city and close by park and ride will give you plenty of options to get into the heart of Bath. Taxi’s cost about £7 – £8.
BATH CITY CENTRE TO CRANLEIGH
Leaving Bath via Queens Square (with Francis Hotel and Obelisk), look for signs towards A4 Bristol, Newbridge, Weston or Royal United Hospital. At 2nd set of traffic lights at “The Weston” pub the road forks – take the right fork onto the A431, and at mini-roundabout exit slightly LEFT. CRANLEIGH is about ¼ mile on LEFT (on A431)
M4 / A46 TO CRANLEIGH AVOIDING CITY CENTRE & ONE-WAY SYSTEM
(This saves at least half an hour plus MUCH frustration)
Leave M4 at Junction 18 and take the A46 to BATH, through the village of PENNSYLVANIA. At next ROUNDABOUT turn RIGHT on A420 towards BRISTOL and after 1/3 mile follow the signs to filter LEFT to “LANSDOWN Park and Ride”. Follow this country lane, the road dips down then rises to T junction – bear LEFT and UP hill along a flat plain, past the Racecourse & Golf course then the road bends left. There is a large pub called the Blathwayt Arms on the right. About 300 yards/metres past pub take the RIGHT turn at new junction to WESTON. Going down the hill, passengers can admire the view, driver keep eyes on the road. At the bottom of the hill there is a mini-roundabout: take the LEFT exit. Go through village & past pedestrian crossing and “Crown and Anchor” pub then turn RIGHT into ANCHOR ROAD which becomes PENN HILL ROAD. (Signposted BRISTOL) At the end of this road (approx. half a mile) turn LEFT at T junction. CRANLEIGH is 500 yards on RIGHT.
APPROACHING BATH ON A36 FROM WARMINSTER
Down towards Bath on A36 & keeping LEFT following sign A36 BRISTOL & CITY CENTRE. At next junction LEFT on A36 (A4) to BRISTOL. Just carry on, over the roundabout, under the bridge, still following signs A36 (A4) BRISTOL Left under Railway Arches, past Toyota & Renault garages, signs change to A4 BRISTOL. Past MITSUBISHI garage, keep to the centre lane and after BMW garage, at next lights, turn RIGHT to BRISTOL A4 (A431). Over the bridge, past Gas storage tanks (on right) and at lights turn LEFT to BRISTOL A4 (A431). At next lights (with “The Weston” pub on your left) take the RIGHT fork to BITTON A431, at mini roundabout bear left A431 Bitton & Kelston. CRANLEIGH is about 1/4 mile on LEFT
APPROACHING BATH ON A39 FROM WELLS
As you near Bath look for and follow the sign to PARK & RIDE (NEWBRIDGE). Take the FIRST LEFT after the Park & Ride entrance, (Old Newbridge Hill). This steep hill has a sharp bend to the right. At the T junction at the top of the hill, turn RIGHT. CRANLEIGH is 50 yards on RIGHT
ARRIVING INTO BATH SPA RAILWAY STATION/ BATH BUS & COACH STATION
Bath Spa Railway station and Bath Bus & Coach station are located next to each other on Dorchester Street. Taxies are available outside the railway station, the normal fare is around £8 – £10. If you wish to pre-arrange a taxi please call Abbey Taxi’s: +44 (0)1225 444444. Buses service numbers 9, 19 & 37 can be caught from the bus station. For Cranleigh, you will need to alight at Penn Lea Road/ Apsley Road stops. You can pay cash to the driver for single journeys or a city day ticket is available for £4.
ARRIVAL INTO BRISTOL AIRPORT

Most major car rental providers (Hertz, Europcar, Enterprise etc) operate at Bristol Airport. There is a direct bus service (number A4) from Bristol Airport to Bath City Centre. Return fare is around £20. We recommend alighting at Newbridge Park and Ride, then walking up Old Newbridge Hill onto Newbridge Hill. This is around a 10-minute walk.
